ABSTRACT
This study aims to explore the relevance of values embedded in the Balinese folktale I Gede Basur and its utilization in Hindu religious education. The research focuses on identifying the moral, spiritual, and social values within the story and how these values can be effectively integrated into the teaching of Hindu religious education to enhance students' understanding and interest. The study employs a qualitative research approach with a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing hermeneutic theory to interpret the text and thematic analysis to categorize the values. Data were collected through textual analysis of the folktale, interviews with Hindu religious teachers, community leaders, and cultural experts, as well as classroom observations. The findings reveal that the folktale I Gede Basur contains significant values such as honesty, patience, responsibility, and devotion, which align with Hindu teachings like dharma, karma, and bhakti. The study demonstrates that using folktales as a teaching medium can make Hindu religious education more engaging and meaningful for students. The research concludes that the integration of folktales like I Gede Basur into the curriculum can effectively enhance students' moral and spiritual understanding, foster cultural appreciation, and improve their interest in Hindu religious education.
